A cooler than average growing season in the Barossa Valley has shaped this Bella's Garden Shiraz, 2005, from Two Hands, the very high quality Australian négociants which has been lauded by wine writers including Robert Parker. A medium-bodied wine with a degree of suppleness and elegance without the jam-like flavours of many wines from this region. It offers dark fruit flavours (blueberry, plum, black cherry) with good depth and nicely balanced acidity together with a lovely creaminess to the long finish. This red wine makes a great accompaniment to grilled and barbecued meats with some spice.
Two Hands Bella's Garden Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2005, has been received with great acclaim by wine critics both inside and outside of Australia:
Jay Miller, The Wine Advocate awarded it 93 points writing:
The 2005 Shiraz “Bella’s Garden” was sourced from Barossa Valley. Opaque purple in color, it offers a reticent perfume of pencil lead, blueberry, and blackberry. Supple, ripe, and with all components in harmony, this medium-bodied Shiraz has uplifting acidity, excellent depth, and a lengthy finish. It will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2020.
Harvey Steiman for The Wine Spectator, 95 points:
The Barossa bottling edges to the top in most vintages, and this is no exception. Rich, complex, layered with green olive, mint, mineral and licorice around a plump core of black cherry and dark plum flavors, lingering on the intense, beautifully focused finish. Best from 2008 through 2017.
James Halliday, The Wine Companion, 95 points:
Rich, fleshy fruit in abundance, but not the least jammy; indeed, borders on outright elegance; good balance and structure.
Tasted 11 Sep 2006, drink by 2020.
