Description

This is quite possibly the best Port produced in what was a very successful vintage in the Douro. Great concentration and intensity.

Taylor Fladgate produced a superb vintage port in the year 2000 almost as though the company wanted to make something really special to celebrate the millennial year. Robert Parker describes this port as tasting like a "young vintage of Château Latour on steroids" and with incredible scores coming from everywhere, this is a simply extraordinary port from one of the great port houses. Floral and full of fruit, here you will find sweet cherries, ripe blackberries and crème de cassis wrapped around very fine tannins. A very concentrated and intense port with near perfect structure and what Parker nobly calls "the leading candidate for the port of the vintage." This bottle represents a great opportunity to taste and revel in the best of what vintage port has to offer.

On its bottling in 2002 Robert Parker opined in The Wine Advocate:
"Among the most saturated blue/purple/black-colored examples of the vintage, Taylor's 2000 tastes like a young vintage of Chateau Latour on steroids. Aromas of graphite, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis and smoke jump from the glass. Spectacularly concentrated and enormously endowed, with sweetness allied to ripe tannin, decent acidity, and layer upon layer of fruit and extract, this is the leading candidate for the port of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040."

Robert Parker describes this special port house thus: "This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades."

Delicioso! Review by James

This is a real beauty; of all the young Taylor Fladgate vintages, for me this is second only to the 1992. Who knows what marvels another 20 years will reveal... (Posted on 02/10/2012)
