South Coast Liqueur Red is a fortified wine produced by the renowned Massandra Palace winery situated on the Black Sea coast of the Crimea to the west of Yalta, location of the famous conference during World War 2. The winery was established in 1894 by Prince Lev Golitsyn as the best winery and cellars in the world at that time and today is generally recognised as second only to those of Champagne with reserves in excess of one million bottles. It was founded with the express intention to make and supply wines for Czar Nichols 2nd's summer palace Livadia. A product of the 1945 vintage the South Coast Liqueur Red is an 18% abv port-like wine made from Morastel, Saperavi, Aleatico and Magarch Bastardo grape varieties. The following tasting notes are from an auction of the Massandra Collection wines at Sotheby's in London:
Tawny, pale amber edge. Smoky, caramel nose and cigar leaf. Sweet ripe fruit and molasses. Well balanced with an aftertaste of ripe strawberries and caramel
We are confident that this liqueur wine will provide a most pleasurable experience for the connoisseur of fortified wines presenting a rare opportunity to enjoy what is an historic wine. Contents are 800 ml.
