Description

2005 was declared a vintage by Niepoort although many of the bigger port producers decided to release single quinta ports instead that year. A vintage port that merits an 18.5 score with Jancis Robinson, who confesses to rarely giving more than 18 points, is a very good port indeed. As it is very young, we would recommend giving it another 10 years or so before popping the cork.

A vintage port that merits an 18.5 score with Jancis Robinson, who confesses to rarely giving more than 18 points, is a very good port indeed. As it is very young, we would recommend giving it another 10 years or so before popping the cork. This is a powerful and concentrated port with an incredibly dark colour and intense black fruits all with good acidity for a fresh edge. The nose has hints of mint and cinnamon spice. The structure is very impressive indeed, a good sign of a big potential to age and it is not overly sweet. The complexity has already started to develop, this will eventually be a thrilling drink. We suggest pairing this with a salty blue cheese for a fabulous taste experience.
