This Fleurie, 2009, is a light and lovely red and is an excellent example of the terroir expression resulting from the joint project of Potel-Aviron's Beaujolais wines. With dark notes of cherry and blackberry with hints of pepper and vanilla on the nose and a finish which David Schildknecht of The Wine Advocate described as "forceful, invigorating, and saliva-inducing" this is a Fleurie from the top drawer. He goes on to sum up this Beaujolais cru as "polished, ripe yet vibrant and not in the least superficially sweet ..". With vines at least 35 years old and with correspondingly low crop yields, these grapes come out with fruitier, deeper and more complex flavours leading to quite a version of the Fleurie style revealing unusual depth. Best served at 13 -14°C.
The Potel-Aviron Beaujolais project was started in the year 2000 and continued after Nicholas Potel parted company with Maison Nicholas Potel in 2007 which he had established following the death of his father Gerard Potel and the subsequent sale of the Domaine de la Pousse d'Or.
