This Santenay 1er Cru Clos Rousseau, 2006, from Maison Nicolas Potel is dark red in colour and possesses a complex nose of violets, gooseberries and black cherries. It is multi-faceted with a smooth yet intense and well-crafted attack on the palate and fills the mouth with its great concentration of ripe fruits before a long finish. It is perfect to drink with fillet of beef, slow-cooked meats and mature cheeses. The micro-climate surrounding the 1er Cru Clos Rousseau vineyard always produces lovely mature and deep wines, made for long cellaring. Here the Pinot Noir grapes come from three different parcels and are harvested by hand before being de-stemmed and going through a careful production process including ageing 100% in 3 year old barrels. Following 4 days cold maceration at 8ºC fermentation lasts for 10 days at the relatively high temperature of 30ºC which gives very high levels of extraction.

Based in the heart of the Cote d’Or, in Nuits Saint Georges, they hand craft their wines to produce balanced fruit-forward reds, and fresh, pure whites. Each appellation is produced in small volumes, with minimum intervention. Their philosophy is based on the respect of the terroir and centuries of Burgundian know-how, which has led them to believe that an organic, hands-off approach is best suited to express the individuality of the wines.
