Many estates suffered problems with the Grenache grape in this vintage with much of the crop lost necessitating a higher proportion of Syrah and Mourvèdre in the Southern Rhône; somewhat paradoxically the proportion of Grenache in this Gigondas is higher than was the case with the 2012 vintage. The 2013 is fresher at this stage than the previous year's wine but the tannins are nonetheless firm and long.
