A good example of a light bodied red, typical of the 1990 vintage, with a red fruit and earthy aroma and a soft, delicate texture. There have been mixed reviews of this wine. Michael Broadbent found it "still deep" with "wonderfully ripe fruit and flesh" and Parker commented that it shows a "certain dilution and shallow character". We found that it was thin and light with a fairly good balance and decent nose.

The wine produced at Château Beychevelle is classified as one of ten Quatrièmes Crus (Fourth Growths) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.
