Description

A lavish, full-bodied wine with a nose of black plum, tar, minerals and licorice backed up with toasty oak. It has a smooth appealing density with fine tannins on the finish. This is an extremely well-balanced, beautifully textured wine that is drinking well now and will continue to do so for another ten years.

The château's name originates from Jonathan Malthus, the English winemaker, buying the land from the local blacksmith's daughter. He has since bought many surrounding vineyards.
